Thirteen years after the birth of Ishmael, God appears to Abraham and reveals Himself as El Shaddai—God Almighty, the One whose power is never limited by human weakness. In Genesis 17, God confirms His covenant, changes Abram’s and Sarai’s names to Abraham and Sarah, establishes circumcision as the sign of the covenant, and clearly identifies Isaac as the promised son through whom His covenant will continue. This chapter contrasts human solutions with God’s perfect plan, reminding us that God’s promises are fulfilled in God’s way and in God’s timing. As Abraham responds with immediate obedience, we see that genuine faith is not merely believing God’s promises—it is walking in wholehearted trust and obedience to the God who faithfully accomplishes what He has promised.
